The public will be consulted on a proposed change to admission arrangements for Pirton Primary School near Hitchin.

This follows Herts County Council approval last month to consult on proposals to close nearby Hexton JMI School from August 2022, despite more than 400 parents and supporters signing a petition to keep the establishment open.

As part of the council's work to consider the longer-term impact of the proposed closure, officers have been reviewing where children living in Hexton would attend school in future if the closure is agreed.

The proposed amendment to Pirton's admission arrangements will see "children living in the parish of Hexton" added as an additional criterion if Pirton school is over-subscribed.

Councillor Terry Douris, Executive Member for Education, Libraries and Lifelong Learning, said: "We are committed to ensuring the public have their say."

However, campaigners are still fighting to keep the school in Hexton alive as Hitchin Nub News has reported.

The consultation will go live on 1 November 2021 and will be available on the council's website here
