Hitchin Library celebrates its 60th birthday

By James Denselow 26th May 2025

Crowds gathered outside Hitchin library on Saturday to mark its 60th birthday.

The library team celebrated the 60th anniversary of the library building at Paynes Park on Saturday 24th May - exactly 60 years to do the day since its opening in 1965.

Their special 60th Birthday Fayre had stalls from local organisations including the Hitchin Historical Society, the British Schools Museum, North Hertfordshire Museum, Next Page Books and face-painting from Impressions Face Painting.

They hosted some of their regular activities including a special Baby Rhyme Time and Storytime, and guests contributed to their reimagined "Hycchyn Mural" with their Artist in Residence Alexa Loy.
