If you were delayed during your drive to work this morning in and around Hitchin and North Herts, here's the reason for your delays during rush hour earlier.

The A1 northbound was shut between junction 7 for Stevenage south and junction 8 for Hitchin and Stevenage due to a vehicle fire this morning, Monday (December 12).

As Hitchin Nub News reported earlier, overnight snow falls have brought disruption to our area (find out more here)

National Highways announced the closure of the northbound carriageway at 518am on Monday morning. Emergency services attended, while National Highways posted on their official Twitter account: "The #A1M in #Hertfordshire is closed northbound between J7 and J8 due to a vehicle fire. @HFRS are in attendance. More information to follow shortly."
