In his latest newsletter released this week Hitchin's MP, Alistair Strathern, explained:

"I completely share residents' anger, concern and disbelief over this"

"My full heartfelt thanks go to our brave local firefighters for their tireless work in containing the blaze and keeping our community safe"

"This situation is unacceptable. I am actively working with Hertfordshire Fire Service, the Environment Agency, and local authorities to address residents' serious concerns —including on safety and the impact on air quality"

"I'll be convening a public meeting with all relevant agencies to ensure robust measures are put in place to reduce the risk of these all-too-frequent fires"

"I will continue to be persistent with this issue. This simply cannot be a state of affairs we continue to accept"

"This week I had the chance to speak more about this issue on BBC 3 Counties. You can listen here."

"In Parliament, I will also be raising the issues underlying the recent fires, and pushing for robust action from the Environment Agency, and consideration of what more can be done to improve the safety of disposal of lithium batteries"
