Hitchin is a town renowned the its community-based events.

So why not take a look at what's going on in the town in our recently revamped What's On section.

To keep you up to date with everything that is going on, we've decided to post a regular 'Event of the Week' article with details of an activity occurring in the local area.

You can list your local events, whether they be shows, films, sports fixtures, quiz nights, virtual markets, pub offers, choir rehearsals, or anything else, on our What's On page free of charge.

For this week we have chosen the brilliant St Michael's Mount Management Committee's AGM.

The site on St Michael's Road in Hitchin is used by many local children and adults for dance classes, Tae kwon do, yoga, Tai Chi, sewing groups, Cubs and Beavers, children's parties, family functions, and a well run and successful Teddybears Pre-School.

However the St Michael's Community Centre (SMMCA) on St Michael's Road in Hitchin needs your help.

Quite simply, as the SMMCA told Nub News, 'to avoid collapse and closure we need more community involvement.'

They need more people to join them.

Free membership of the SMMCA is given to residents on registration by email, or in person, giving full postal address.

Or you can contact them by email: [email protected] or by calling 01462 432635

So, why not go along to the SMMCA's AGM this Sunday (June 27) from 11am at the Centre St. Michael's Rd - and help to save a brilliant community charity.

............

SMMCA's origins:

SMMCA is a registered community charity formed by Residents on the 1980s-built Chaucer Way estate to promote social activities and community bonds.

They raised funds which were matched by NHDC to build a Community Centre which is run by a volunteer committee on lease from NHDC.

How is it run? Day to day business is managed by an elected Committee of volunteers from the community who employ a paid administrator.

Trustees hold the lease on behalf of the SMMCA and oversee policy and the appropriate functioning of the Charity.
