Hitchin Nub News: Ten of the best - our favourite stories of the week

8th Nov 2021 | Local News

Since launching last year Hitchin Nub News has gone from strength to strength.

We have risen from 36th place in the Google rankings to third spot - thanks to our loyal readers who are enjoying everything that we have to offer.

From being first with Hitchin news, views and sport, we also offer an ever-growing What's On section, as well as business, Motors, Jobs and Property sections for our tens of thousands of local readers.

That's not all, each and every Friday more than 3,500 people from our town receive our free Friday newsletter delivered straight to their inbox, as we share our favourite stories of the week and a lot more besides.

Inspired by this we've also decided to introduce Ten of the Best. Where we'll share our favourite stories of the week on our website.

So, read on for our favourite/most important articles of the last seven days - just for you.

.............

TEN OF THE BEST

10) We're big on sharing opinions and news from our legion of loyal readers. Not least from the brilliant team at our town's iconic St Mary's Church.

Churchwardens: The Heart of Hitchin

.............

9) We are delighted to add another name to our ever-growing list of columnists, Harry Hitchin aka Harry Fellerman.

Harry lives in our town and cares passionately about our community. The things that matter to him, matter to us all in Hitchin.

So, read on for Harry's first Nub News column as he discusses the Blight of Littering in Hitchin

............

8) Since Hitchin Nub News launched in July 2020, never have we experienced so many readers moved to fury about our local MP.

While anger levels rose when our town's parliamentarian Bim Afolami voted against free school meals in October last year, nothing has matched this week's outrage.

Read Elizabeth Dennis-Harburg as she gives her withering take after the Owen Paterson sleaze row MPs behaving badly destroys trust in politicians and democracy

..................

7) And this is what prompted so many to anger in our town and nationally.

Hitchin MP Bim Afolami votes on Parliamentary standards reform as Owen Paterson sleaze row rumbles on

..............

6) With Cop26 still going strong, with an awful lot of hot air expended by those aiming to curb hot air, has anyone bothered to ask the generation that will be most affected by the rise in temperatures?

Hitchin Nub News has. We asked aspiring journalist and Hitchin teenager Sam Johnson his views.

He responded with a mature piece that every politician should read. If you haven't seen it yet, here it is: What climate change conference means to my generation

...............

5) Do you know we have a regular Thursday series called What's On in Hitchin, where we showcase all the best our town has to offer over the coming weekend.

It's already attracted a large following, so keep an eye out for our weekly What's On review.

Here's last week's effort for a sample of what to expect

.............

4) As Remembrance Day approaches Hitchin Nub News takes a look at war stories relating to our town through our Rewind articles.

Read the latest in our Rewind series, on the fateful evening the Nazi's bombed Hitchin

..................

3) Our school contacts are second to none. Hitchin Nub News has consistently brought exclusive stories to our readers through what has been a challenging 18 months for schools in our area during the pandemic.

So, it was nice to share a happy story as we congratulate all associated with Hitchin Boys' School on being awarded an Outstanding grade boy Ofsted after their recent inspection at the establishment on Grammar School Walk

................

2) We're going to miss the brilliant Bekah at Hitchin Library as she moves on to pastures new.

Clearly, a large amount of people in our community also thought so as accolades poured after she departed Paynes Park after ten years outstanding service in our community. Read our tribute piece here

All the best Bekah!

...............

1) Well done to everyone concerned at the Hitchin Pantry - as a new community supermarket launches in our town.
