“Hitchin Pete” says goodbye to Tudor Wines

By James Denselow 23rd May 2025

After over 40 years serving the residents of Hitchin fine wine the owner of Tudor Wines celebrated his last day yesterday (22nd of May) ahead of a new team taking over the shop.

Hitchin Nub News popped in to toast Pete's last day and he told us that it was a bittersweet and that he was particularly sad to say farewell to his customers "who are also my friends".

He described his journey building and expanding what he called "not just a normal shop". The new shop tenants plan to expand the site of the off license and there's a potential name change coming.

Meanwhile Pete reflects on his Hitchin journey; "I've always been a Hitchin boy. I went to school at William Ransom and Hitchin Boys. The town has always been nice but is getting nicer. I will always live here as I'm a Westmill boy at heart".
