If you visited Hitchin town centre over the Easter weekend you may have spotted some unusual artwork taking shape on the Market Place.

This was the painting of the new Hitchin Piano, a project supported by community interest company Hitchin Creative and managed by the Hitchin BID team.

The piano was very kindly donated to the Hitchin Community by Richard Reason pianos, based in Tilehouse Street.

Local graffiti artist Mark Meana set to work on Saturday morning to give the piano a bright, stand-out look with some inspiring words and phrases scattered across it encouraging passers by to give it a play.

The new Hitchin piano will be placed in the square and also at other locations around town from now onwards (weather permitting) and the hope is that pianists old and young, new and accomplished will jump on and play a tune or two!

Hitchin Bid ranger Leon Norton was the first to play it.
