Hitchin First Friday is a new initiative to support the transgender community.

The idea was based on the successful evening called Leeds First Friday - a social event for the trans/non-binary/gender-fluid community and their partners, allies, and friends.

Organiser Katie Wilson told Nub News: "So far the Snug Bar and the Pitcher & Piano have signed up.

"Hopefully more will follow - with the aim at making Hitchin a place that people will feel safe to come to and maybe spend the weekend here.

"This will mean more people going to all the cafes and independent shops in the town, and Hitchin will become a safe haven for the trans community from all over the country to visit."

Katie further explained the idea that came from Yorkshire, saying: "On the first Friday of each month all the pubs [in Leeds] get together to embrace the trans community, having a good time and making new friends, but at the same time raising awareness."
