A Hitchin pool player is preparing to take on some of the world's best after being selected to represent England at the World Championships in South Africa.

Daniel Wells has been named in the England Seniors A Pool Team and will travel to Cape Town for the tournament in October.

The selection is the latest achievement in an impressive pool career for Wells, who has competed at a high level for many years and has previously represented his country.

He is also the current European Seniors Champion.

Away from international competition, Wells is well known in the local pool community as the owner of The Pool Hall in Hitchin.

Speaking about his England call-up, Wells said: "I'm absolutely delighted to have been selected for the England Seniors A Team.

"Representing England is something I'm incredibly proud of, and to now have the opportunity to compete at a World Championship in South Africa is fantastic."

The World Championships will see leading players and teams from across the globe descend on Cape Town, with England hoping to challenge for the title.

For Wells, the trip will provide another opportunity to represent his country on the international stage while continuing to promote the sport closer to home in Hitchin.

He added: "I've played pool for a long time and have been fortunate enough to represent England before, but being selected for the Seniors A Team and travelling to South Africa for a World Championship is something I'm really looking forward to.

"Hopefully we can go out there, perform well and bring the trophy home for England."

Wells will now continue his preparations before travelling to Cape Town with his England teammates for the World Championships in October.
