A popular Hitchin pub has paid tribute to its legion of loyal punters in the last few weeks following a single, anonymous complaint after the easing of lockdown restrictions.
The Victoria Pub on Ickleford Road thanked customers for their support at the start of the bank holiday weekend, following a faceless complaint about noise coming from the much-loved pub on the first weekend they reopened after three long lockdowns.
The outpouring of love and affection for the pub form so many in Hitchin was a much needed tonic after an unidentified person objected to the sound of music and socialising.
Prior to the Covid pandemic and three long lockdowns, the pub was a vital cog in the community, hosting an impressive calendar of event including live music, quiz nights, themed food evenings, charity fundraisers, Street Food Fridays, VicFEST and Sunday session acoustic nights.
Not to mention the fact they were as acclaimed for their famous Sunday roasts as much as their epic gig nights.
Hopefully all that is set to return when lockdown restrictions ease even further, with the next stage in the government's roadmap to normality coming on May 17 before culminating in a full restoration of freedom for us all on June 21.
However, in the meantime, posting on their Instagram account in response to love the team at the Vic have received since the complaint, they said: "Thank you, thank you, thank you... the outpouring of love and support has been overwhelming.
"I couldn't look at my phone last night so I drank wine instead and woke up with a heavy head but a warm heart.
"Take care and have a fabulous bank holiday weekend Hitchin....Vic and Tom and all the crew."
