A popular Hitchin pub has shared a post-Freedom Day update.

The Victoria pub on Ickleford Road shared news with its legion on loyal punters.

With Monday marking the end of the majority of restrictions, the busy boozer posted on its official Instagram account.

"Hey Hitchin, we thought we'd give you a little update post 'Freedom Day' and let you know what's changing here - and quite honestly, not a lot!

"After careful consideration, following customer and crew feedback and with the increase in cases, current levels of self isolation, staff isolation and concerns over public safety, we have decided to continue operating as we have been, maintaining full table service with socially distanced tables and requesting use of masks only when entering the building.

"You will however now be able to go and say hello to friends on other tables, which is THE BEST change we think."

Track and Trace will be available for customers to use at their discretion and they will continue to manage entry at the door.

Masks outside will be optional, while inside they remain mandatory and will be discretionary for staff.

Vic and Tom added: "To go back to a packed pre-pandemic pub feels uncomfortable for you and for us and we will do all that we can to avoid further closure.

"We welcome your thoughts during this next phase, our main concern is customer and crew safety so we hope you respect our wishes and continue to enjoy all that we have to offer here at VicandTom."
