A health and fitness course backed by a Premier League club is kicking-off in Hitchin this week!

Watford FC are will be hosting a free 12 week weight loss course for men called Shape Up this autumn, set to start on Thursday [September 30].

The initiative is backed by club's Community, Sports and Education Trust and will be on every Thursday at Hitchin Girls' School from 730pm.

Watford's Rhys Ratcliffe told Hitchin Nub News: "Shape Up comes to the community of Hitchin at a time where we need to improve our health and give ourselves the best chance of beating Covid.

"On Shape Up, we focus on learning about food and increasing physical activity in a manageable and effective way for your lifestyle.

"We really hope the community of Hitchin can join us as we help the community get their weight, and overall health back on track."

Shape Up

Shape Up is a free 12-week weight management course for men.

The course is aimed at men aged 18 to 65 years-old with a BMI of 30 or over and men from the BAME community with a BMI of 28 or over.

Participants meet up weekly for a ninety-minute session comprising of a forty-five-minute educational segment and a forty-five-minute physical activity session.

These two segments are delivered with the aim of improving participant's healthy lifestyle knowledge to ensure a sustainable weight loss rather than the typically short-term benefit of a diet-based programme.

This course is open and accessible to all.
