In the latest in our Hitchin Nub News series showcasing wonderfully evocative vintage black and white photographs here's a series of iconic shots courtesy of NHDC and North Herts Museum.

Today's 'Then and Now' is centred on our town's historic Market Place.

The evocative sepia image is taken from the museum's TB Latchmore collection who documented many places in Hitchin around the turn of the 20th century.

Note the 'Tea and Provisions' shops is now Nationwide and the white building to the right is the Rose and Crown.

PS Don't forget to visit the brilliant North Herts Museum in our town.

If you like old photos then you will have to take in their exhibition called Frozen In Time – Early Photographs of North Herts, which will run until 27 June.

The must-see exhibition will feature a series of 48 photographs of North Herts in Victorian and Edwardian times from the museum's collections.

The fascinating images of towns and villages in the district offer a snapshot into the daily lives of people who lived and worked there during those eras.
