A special screening bringing together leading scientists and experts to discuss the climate and nature crisis is set to take place in Hitchin next month.

The People's Emergency Briefing will be screened at St Mark's Church in Hitchin on Thursday, September 10, from 7.30pm to 9.15pm.

The event will feature a film bringing together nine leading UK scientists and experts to examine the latest evidence on climate and nature, what it could mean for people's everyday lives and what can be done in response. (Ticket Tailor⁠)

Organisers say the film looks at impacts already being seen in areas including extreme weather, food security, health and the cost of living.

The People's Emergency Briefing is based on the National Emergency Briefing held in Westminster and is hosted by wildlife presenter Chris Packham.

It also features appearances from familiar faces including Deborah Meaden, Konnie Huq, Jennifer Saunders and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, alongside contributions from people around the UK. (Ticket Tailor⁠)

Following the screening, there will be a short facilitated open discussion focusing specifically on what the issues raised could mean for Hitchin and the surrounding area.

The discussion will also look at how communities elsewhere in the country are responding and what positive action could be taken locally.

Organisers said the aim was to help people understand the challenges and consider how residents can respond together "as neighbours, communities and citizens".

Similar People's Emergency Briefing events are being held across the country.

The Hitchin event is open to everyone aged 16 and over, while St Mark's Church has ramps, an accessible toilet and a hearing loop.
