Hitchin Town 1-0 Biggleswade Town

Mark Burke's Hitchin Town clinched vital victory in an absorbing relegation six-pointer by beating local rivals Biggleswade Town 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

In front of an impressive Top Field attendance of 796, Steve Cawley put the Canaries ahead, with a lovely chip over Waders keeper John Hill in the 21st minute.

Robbie O'Keefe, the Waders' former Hitchin manager, who now doubles up as boss at Langford Road, as well as Stevenage academy supremo, saw his team battle gamely, but the home side were in the ascendancy for the majority of the hard-fought game.

Striker Jacob Hutchinson nearly doubled the lead after the interval but fired over when well placed.

Both sides battled gamely in the late winter sunshine, but as referee Mr Stephens blew the final whistle, it was the home side that emerged triumphant, with three crucial points that will boost their hopes of survival significantly.
