Four fire engines attended the scene at Garrison Court, near to Windmill Hill with Herts Police also present, while closing parts of Queen Street and Hollow Lane to traffic this morning.

It is understood the pair were taken to hospital for precautionary checks and are fine.

Six firefighters in breathing apparatus extinguished the flat fire, with three hose reel jets used.
