Hitchin Tree of the Year 2023 competition

Get involved in Hitchin's Tree of the Year competition.

Hitchin Nature Network are inviting you to nominate your favourite tree in Hitchin.

Is it the most majestic, the most colourful, or does it have a special story attached? Is it a small sapling fighting against the odds? Perhaps it is the most photogenic or the biggest?

Organiser Phill Barron from the Hitchin Nature Network told Hitchin Nub News: "There are many reasons to love Hitchin's trees: they look magnificent, provide oxygen for us to breathe and capture carbon.

"Hitchin's trees provide shade in our town centre in the summer, cooling the air and filtering out pollution.

To nominate your tree you just need to write a sentence or two describing your tree, take a photograph and send them both to Hitchin Nature Network either on Facebook via the Hitchin Nature Community group, or respond to the Tree of the Year post on the Hitchin Nature Network Facebook page.

Alternatively, you can send them an email at [email protected].

The winner will be announced at the end of National Tree Week (Friday, November 25 through until Sunday, December 3).

It is free to enter and the prize is a copy of Ray Mears' latest book "British Woodland". For competition rules will be on Hitchin Nature Network's Facebook page (& also given below).

Hitchin Nature Network will judge the competition and their decision is final

Trees must be in Hitchin

Trees must be visible from a public space

The photograph must be taken by yourself and you must be happy for us to use it
