Hitchin is set to swelter in heatwave conditions from today through to early next week - with top temperatures hitting 34C.

Our town can expect blazing hot sunshine until Tuesday at the very least - with the mercury hovering around 33C for the next five days.

Today, Friday, will see a top temperature of 34C - with an amber warning in place as the heat triggers the Met Office's extreme weather level 3 status.

We can expect blazing sunshine with only a gentle breeze to moderate the heat - with sun seekers warned to use lotion with high levels of protection against sweltering rays.

However, we should make the most of it, as low pressure is expected to move in later in the month - meaning the second half of August could see more frequently wet and windy conditions.

This is due to an active Atlantic hurricane season, which could lead to changeable conditions towards the end of August.
