Wetherspoons are cutting prices in their Hitchin pub by 7.5 per cent today, Thursday (September 15) for one day only.

Prices will be lower than normal for thirsty punters at the pub chain's Sun Street hostelry.

The Angel Vaults will be offering the discount to highlight Tax Equality Day.

Prices across the firm's UK establishments will drop by 7.5 per cent across the company's 851 UK pubs, to highlight the benefits of a permanent cut in VAT for hospitality firms - while also raising awareness that VAT is the fastest growing tax in the country.

Pub boss Tim Martin said: "Customers in our pubs will find the price of their food and drink will be lower than normal on Tax Equality Day.

"The Chancellor should note that the main impact of tax inequality is on high streets and town and city centres, which heavily depend on a diversity of prosperous hospitality businesses for economic, social and employment success."
