Despite lockdown starting today, Thursday, the organisers of Hitchin's Christmas Tree Festival still aim to hold their popular annual event next month.

2020 marks the 24th year of the eagerly-awaited annual festive event in our town.

Due to the coronavirus crisis this year, the festival can't be held at its usual site, Holy Saviour Church on Radcliffe Road.

However, organisers are still working hard to create a 'Festive Trail' of decorated trees in the windows of town centre shops and businesses between Friday, December 11 to Sunday, December 13.

The organisers have sent a message to Hitchin saying: "We have lots of enthusiastic exhibitors and shops lined up to take part.

"It's going to be a great event. It is going to add more of the Christmas spirit around the town, as we do our shopping in our lovely local shops.

"Tree lights will be on till 10pm so they can be enjoyed in the evenings too. We plan to sell trail guides in Hitchin High Street on Saturday, December 5, and over the main weekend so you can seek out all the trees."

If you would like your Hitchin business to take part, there are a couple of spaces left.

If you would like to exhibit a tree, or offer to host a shop window, or participate as a business in your own premises and be included in the trail guide, you are requested to get in touch with the organisers.
