Hitchin's brilliant Market Theatre has been busy getting in the mood for Halloween with its latest thriller.

The highly-acclaimed site in Sun Street continues their new season of plays from Thursday, October 15, with a brand new thriller called 'Too Late' running until November 14.

'Too Late' is about two women played by actresses Eleanor Pead and Lucia Young, both with individual problems who come face to face in a mysterious house for the first time. They accept each other but must solve their issues before time runs out.

Writer/ director Kirk Foster said: "We can't say much more than that or it will give it all away.

"But as usual with our 'scary' plays there will certainly be a few jumpy moments and this certainly won't be a play for the faint hearted."

The Market Theatre reopened their doors for live theatre in late September and are offering limited socially distanced seating in their intimate auditorium.

Theatre manager Glyn Doggett explained: "Covid has meant taking our already intimate theatre and shrinking down the audience size even more.

"We've gone from a capacity of 70 to a capacity of 28.

"This does mean however that we can provide a safe and personal experience to everyone attending and we are reserving a table in our bar areas prior to the show for each party so they can enjoy a drink before and after the show if they wish.

"The feedback from our opening play of the season was lovely and many remarked on how safe they felt as well as of course how much they enjoyed the show."

The Market Theatre's current play is 'Nell Gwyn' the story of the orange seller turned actress and mistress to Charles II.

It stars local actress Jemma Carlisle and runs until this weekend. This performance, along with every show this season is also being filmed and tickets will be available to watch the show via the Market Theatre's website.

Glyn explained: "Streaming shows online is new for us, but we hope it will be a way to ensure all our patrons, even those that don't feel ready to come and visit us in person, still get a chance to see our shows."

Nell Gwyn closes tomorrow (Saturday), with the thriller 'Too Late' opens on Thursday, October 15 and runs until Saturday, November 14.

Shows are every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 730pm, with Thursday night a concession night for seniors and students.
