Hitchin’s Val Bryant elected leader of North Herts District Council

In a short (less than 15 minutes) "Extraordinary Council" meeting last night (13.1.26) Cllr Val Bryant was elected by 23 votes to zero with 20 councillors abstaining,
Cllr Bryant, of Hitchin Bearton Ward, thanked her predecessor Cllr Daniel Allen who'd been deposed in a vote of no confidence at the end of 2025.
She vowed to be the "continuity" leader and thanked Cllr Allen for "leading us so well"
Cllr Bryant also reassured residents worried that schemes such as Churchgate have been delayed by the political upheaval that
