Outstanding young fundraiser Betty-Leigh Allinson has cooked up a new idea for another great charity challenge!

Not content with raising more than £30,000 for the Garden House Hospice at the height of the first lockdown last year, by riding her bike a mile a day, the inspirational Codicote youngster is at again.

This time, in celebration of the late Sir Captain Tom Moore, with the guidance of her favourite baker Homemade by Donna she plans to bake 100 cakes to help raise money for the hospice.

And while proceeds will be going to the hospice, Betty, the granddaughter of former Arsenal footballer Ian Allinson, also plans to make a donation to the Sir Captain Tom Moore Foundation.

The move comes after the foundation asked people to celebrate the amazing achievements of Captain Tom - by dreaming up their own personal '100 challenge' to raise money for charity.

Betty's exploits last year, which saw a raft of big names back her charity cycle ride, including David Beckham, meant she was also invited to be part of the video to help raise awareness for the '100 challenge'.

Parents Faye and Lee told Hitchin Nub News: "We are so proud of Betty. She had such great fun filming the advert and loves anything to do with Sir Captain Tom.

"He's a hero in this house so we were delighted when the foundation asked Betty to be involved."

The event will take place at The Goat Inn, Codicote on Sunday, May 2, when Betty will be baking 100 mouth-watering cakes for the hospice and 'Captain Tom's foundation.

Betty's cake baking mentor, Donna Clarke, added: "Beyond excited and proud to guide Betty [she's] an amazing little girl raising funds for a wonderful cause - go Betty!"
