Hitchin Town is a much-loved institution in our town - as witnessed by the incredible response to the Canaries crowdfunding appeal.

Donations smashed through the initial target of £25k in a matter of days after it was launched last month.

The club then doubled the target in a bid to get much-needed ground improvements over the line to help ensure the long-term future of the club.

Once again our town and the wider football community responded, with the total now nudging a heart-warming £43k - with the promise of more to come from a youngster with a big heart!

Young Teddy Donnelly is set to walk 25 laps of Top Field this weekend to help raise funds for the appeal intended to seal Hitchin's survival.

Teddy, five, is the son of former Canary Luke.

He wants to raise money to help the club that has seen his grandad Ian and three of his uncles - Callum, Brett Donnelly and Josh Bickerstaff - represent.

On Sunday, September 27, Teddy is going to walk 25 laps of Top Field which is about 9km in distance - meaning Teddy can be Hitchin's equivalent of the legendary Captain Tom - even if he is nearly a century younger.

The club said: "Please support Teddy in his quest as the link between the Donnelly family and Hitchin Town FC remains as strong as ever."
