Milford Lodge Care Home has been buzzing with energy, creativity, and heartfelt companionship all summer long thanks to an incredible group of young volunteers—from toddlers to teenagers—who have given their time, talents, and kindness to residents. Their visits have brought colour, laughter, and meaningful connection to the home, proving once again that intergenerational relationships are thriving in Hitchin.

Sisters Emma (12) & Mary (13): Storytellers, Bakers & Summer Party Stars

Emma and Mary have become familiar friendly faces at Milford Lodge.

Their volunteering has been wonderfully varied:

Story & poetry reading that brought calm, comfort, and nostalgia to residents.

Cupcake decorating sessions filled with sprinkles, laughter, and plenty of sweet creativity.

Running the tombola at the Summer Party—bringing excitement and joy to residents and families alike.

Their confidence, kindness, and teamwork have made them stand-out contributors to the summer programme.

Paarth (16): Games Master & Lunchtime Helper

Paarth has been a brilliant source of fun and support throughout the holidays.

He has:

Played Scrabble, Bingo, and Play Your Cards Right, keeping minds active and spirits high.

He took an active role in the India Independence Day celebrations by making traditional Halva for residents to try & Bhangra dancing.

He also assisted residents with jigsaw puzzles, offering patience and encouragement.

Supported the team during lunchtime, helping residents settle, dine, and enjoy the social atmosphere.

His reliability and gentle nature have made him a favourite among residents.

🎨 Macy (15): Creative Spark & Community Connector

Macy has brought artistic flair and community spirit to Milford Lodge:

Helping residents with arts & crafts projects—from painting to seasonal decorations.

Inviting residents to Hitchin Priory School for activities, strengthening the bond between the school and the care home.

Her initiative has opened new doors for intergenerational engagement.

Alexander James (7): Themed Cupcake Ambassador

One of the youngest volunteers, Alexander James, has been visiting every week with his delightful themed cupcakes—each batch lovingly prepared and eagerly anticipated by residents.

His visits bring joy, surprise, and a sense of celebration to the home.

Samuel (15): Lea Manor High School, Luton

Games, Gardening & Art Companion

Samuel has been a versatile and enthusiastic volunteer:

Playing dominoes with residents

Monday Mornings With Local Toddlers

Every Monday, Milford Lodge transforms into a lively stay‑and‑play hub as toddlers from York Road Nursery and Samuel Lucas School join residents for shared activities.
