Katie Wilson unveils new book "From the Closet, to the World"

Local trans woman, author and community advocate Katie Wilson has poured decades of hidden memories into her forthcoming memoir, From the Closet to the World. The book traces early memories of inner confusion and searching through childhood and teenage years.
Katie's narrative Includes rebellions in department-store perfume aisles and her first taste of lipstick at age 15. Set against the soundtrack of Boy George's "Karma Chameleon," she looks back to try and make sense of it all.
A journey of suppression, that has only found its way to the surface in recent years.
Her journey culminates in community triumph: the unveiling of Hitchin's rainbow-painted PRIDE bench. Now a fixture on windmill hill, the bench stands as a testament to the power of shared stories to transform shame into solidarity and to turn hidden longing into collective joy.
Katie chronicles these moments—and many more—in her forthcoming memoir, From the Closet to the World. It's a tale of pain, struggle and fear - but also of hope, determination and faith.
