Leaning lamppost of Hitchin: Revolting reason behind town centre lamp lean
[H1]HITCHIN: You've heard of the Leaning Tower of Pisa - now meet the Leaning Lampost of Hitchin.[H1]
Hitchin town centre now boats an iron lamppost with a lean.
While we know that the curious angle of the iconic Italian tower was caused by soft foundations underneath the structure, mystery surrounds the reason behind Hitchin's leaning lamppost in Market Place.
As you can see by our picture (courtesy of Nub News reader Steve Biggs) the lamppost, which is situated outside Starbucks in the market square, is currently at an angle.
Did a car reverse into the post in question? Or maybe lorry on deliveries nudged into it?
Perhaps. But judging by the angle, a vehicle would have had to mount the pavement to angle the lamppost in the particular way it is now pointing.
However, a look at the picture in full could reveal the answer.
A disgusting pile of vomit lies at the bottom of the lamppost this Friday morning (February 11).
You could be forgiven for thinking that a Thursday night reveller could have chundered in front of the post - while holding onto it for support.
While making a further assumption that during the powerful chunder the person responsible somehow managed to push the lamppost into such an angle.
Perhaps we'll never know.
But one thing is for certain, Herts County Council will have one more job to add to their 'to-do' list, in fixing the Leaning Lamppost of Hitchin.
PS: We've avoided showing you the offending pile of vomit as we really don't want to put you off your breakfast, brunch or lunch depending on what time you read this story. But if you really want to take a look at the gory details, for the full picture see Steve Biggs Twitter account @biggsytravels.
