The Liberal Democrats have launched their local elections campaign for Hitchin and North Herts.

After meeting to unveil their eye-catching giant billboard on the junction of Walsworth and Cambridge Roads in Hitchin, the party held a rally with their candidates for the area's council seats.

The event was jointly hosted by the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Hitchin, Chris Lucas and their candidate for Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Sean Prenderghast.

Speaking at the event, councillor Lucas said: "We are delighted to introduce our 'full slate' of fantastic candidates.

"Over the last few elections the Liberal Democrats have won the trust of local people and are now the pre-eminent political force in Hitchin and North Herts.

"With our strong record of working hard on behalf of our residents all year round, we are hoping that many more voters across the area will put their faith in us to represent them."

Councillor Lucas added: "The main focus of our local election campaign is on three key areas: caring for the environment, linking planning to infrastructure needs and having a council that listens to people's concerns.

"If we knock on your door in the next few weeks please let us know how you think we can change our communities for the better".

At the previous local elections in 2023 the Liberal Democrats achieved 32% of the votes, higher than either of the other two main parties.

Councillor Sean Prenderghast added: "Clearly more and more local people are backing the Liberal Democrats, and we hope they will continue to do so on May 2".
