Pupils at Preston Primary VC School in Hitchin can once again enjoy their school field following a donation from local housebuilder, Elivia Homes.

Elivia Homes - which has its Sadler's Court development on Back Lane next door to Preston Primary - said it noticed the damage to the school's existing sports pitch and decided to lend a hand, donating 265 square feet of astro turf and 60m of fencing as well as a team of volunteers, working a combined 15 days to complete the installation.

Preston Primary is a junior mixed infant voluntary controlled (VC) primary school, educating children aged four to 11 years old.

Mrs Inneke Luitingh, Headteacher said: "We are so grateful to Elivia Homes and humbled by the fact that they have undertaken this huge project for us.

"The former field was not safe for children to play on and had been disused for a long period of time, so we're really pleased that we now have this area to take part in sports both in PE lessons and break times all year round."

Beverly Griffiths, Senior Sales Manager at Elivia Homes Central, added: "Ensuring a lasting legacy in the areas we build and supporting local communities where we can is a key priority for Elivia Homes.

"With our new development right next to the school's field, we noticed the sports pitch was in a state of disrepair and were keen to support them and provide the materials and workforce needed to put the field back into use.

"The new astro pitch means the children can enjoy being outside in all weathers and have a safe place to play."

Sadler's Court is an exclusive development of 10 detached homes, ranging from two- to five-bedrooms.

Finished to a high-quality specification, each property delivers sustainability and energy-efficiency with air source heat pumps, underfloor heating and EV charge points as standard.
