...............

Name and job title

James Wyman, Financial Adviser

How long have you been at Lyndhurst

Five and a half years

What makes Lyndhurst such a special company to work for

I chose Lyndhurst due to the fact that employees have stayed there for a long time. Many in the head office have been with the company for 10-20+ years. That gave me reassurance that the culture is a good one. Everyone is approachable and, more importantly, listen to. This means that ideas can turn into actions quickly helping solve company-wide issues.

Tell us a little about your job

I am a holistic financial adviser, able to give advice in all areas. Whilst it is useful to have the knowledge, I will still refer to specialists when required. I like to since get my teeth into Inheritance Tax (IHT) planning, as there are a number of ways to reduce or mitigate IHT. IHT is the only tax people choose to pay.

What's the best thing about your job

Speaking with clients, finding out about them and their situation to then build the best advice for them.

How important is it to have your financial affairs looked after by such a respected company as Lyndhurst

Due to Lyndhurst's size, we are able to have a product committee and investment committee. As independent financial advisers, we look at the whole of market, the benefit of having a product committee is that we are able to whittle down the market to those which meet our criteria and the client's needs. The investment committee build portfolios that are aligned to a clients risk profile, the portfolios are regularly reviewed to ensure no changes need to be made.

Tell us a little about yourself

I have lived in Hitchin my whole life

What's your favourite place in Hitchin

The Red Hart was the go-to place 'back in the day' and you would normally find me in there, however, now we spend our time walking around the town and having a picnic in the churchyard.

What's the best financial decision you've made

Buying life insurance. It is always overlooked as people assume you don't need it unless you have a mortgage or have the 'it won't happen to me' mentality. In reality, it can be inexpensive if purchased young and means loved ones will be provided for if the worst happens.

Any hidden talents/unusual hobbies?

I'm a fan of steam engines. My grandad owned a fairground organ which we would take to steam rallies. I aim to buy an engine for retirement and take it to the local rallies.

Favourite holiday?

We went to New York, Christmas 2019 which was amazing. Incredibly magical, and freezing cold!
