Man arrested after driving wrong way down A1(M)

Police are appealing for information, witnesses and dash cam footage following a collision on the A1(M).

Officers were called just after 12.20am today (Monday 22 July), to reports of a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction on the northbound carriageway of the A1(M) from Junction 6 (Welwyn) heading towards the Barnet Bypass.

A collision was reported shortly after near the Barnet Bypass. Two cars were involved, a black Toyota Auris and a grey Volkswagen Golf.

Officers attended the scene alongside the ambulance service. No serious injuries were reported.

A man aged in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving over the alcohol limit. He is in custody at this time.

PC Joe Massey, from the Road Policing Unit, said: "I would like to hear from anyone who was travelling on the A1(M) at this time and may have seen what happened.

"If you have a dash cam fitted, I urge you to please check your footage as you may have captured something that could assist us with our investigation.

"Anyone with information can contact me via email to [email protected]."
