Detectives investigating two rapes in Stevenage have charged and remanded a man in connection with the offences.

Harry Smith, aged 28, of Vardon Road, Stevenage, has been charged with two counts of rape and remanded in custody.

The charges relate to separate incidents in June and July this year reported to have occurred in a private address in the town.

Smith is due to appear at a pre-trial hearing at Cambridge Crown Court on Monday 21 August. Detective Inspector Caeva Taylor, of the Sexual Offences Investigation Team, said: "I am grateful for the level of bravery these women have shown by coming forward to report the incidents.

"Anyone wishing to report a rape or sexual assault will always be treated sensitively and with respect by us. We recognise how difficult it must be but please be assured we have specially trained officers who can help you every step of the way."
