A Christmas message from Maxine Howarth, Hitchin Town FC's chaplain
Advent is a busy time in the life of the church and this year we are starting a new intiative – an Advent Trail around the parish, writes Hitchin Town chaplain Maxine Howarth
Maps will be available to collect from outside St Mark's, Days bakery, Chenery's Funeral Directors and through the football club.
The idea is that you grab a map which gives you each of the locations and wander round the parish each day during Advent, finding a new Advent window display.
They are all in the theme of Christmas Carols and in each window there is a letter of the alphabet to collect.
If you have children and they are able to help you unscramble all the letters into a phrase to do with Christmas, bring the answer along to one of our children's crib services on Christmas eve (at 2pm or 4pm @ St Mark's) and they can collect a small prize.
We will also be doing a 'Pints & Carols' evening in The Angel pub, just singing some Christmas Carols and having a drink together on Tuesday December 12 at 730pm. We will be inviting donations to raise money for The Angel to have a defibrilator fitted.
If you're not really feeling the joy of the season this year, for whatever reason, we will be holding a Blue Christmas Service on Tuesday, December 19 at 730pm.
This will be a reflective service for those wanting time to think, slow down, reflect and acknowledge the significance of Christmas without too much fuss,
If you need any further details email [email protected] or text/call Rev Maxine on 07930 522 868.
