What is the background of those candidates running for the Hitchin seats and what's their vision for the town and the surrounding area?

This week Hitchin Nub News heard from Chris Lucas of the Liberal Democrats.

HNN - Why are you running for Hitchin South?

CL – "I'm running so that I can make a difference in people's lives. Hertfordshire County Council has been letting us down since 1999. There is a lack of delivery, a lack of vision which simply isn't meeting local needs".

HNN - Tell us more about yourself?

CL – "I live in the centre of Hitchin and my two sons attend the Boys School. I've worked at North Herts College for the last eight years. I've been elected twice to represent Hitchin Priory Ward residents on the District Council. I'm exciting to have the support of my friend Keith Hoskins (the incumbent Hitchin South County Councillor) a true Hitchin giant".

HNN - What would you like to see the County Council do / do differently?

CL – "I have three priorities. First, to address the blight of potholes and the state of the roads across the county. Using innovative repair techniques so that holes can be fixed on one visit rather than the current ah hoc approach. Secondly, I want to focus on the environment, planting more trees, ensuring green spaces are protected and installing more EV charging points. Finally, I was to focus on delivering for students with special needs across the county".

"The council is awash with inefficiencies, and we can realise my priorities by balancing a budget by sharing provision with partners. We need a new set of eyes and vision for Hertfordshire".

HNN - Tell us how the campaign is going so far?

CL – "I'm delighted by the feedback I've received on the doorstep. Our messages are coming across loud and clear. I'm surprised that the only other candidate I've heard of who is running against me is from the Christian Peoples Alliance (CPA)"

"It's all systems go for the next few days and the role of the Liberal Democrats has never been more important holding the Conservatives and Labour to account".
