Milford Lodge Care Home Marks Emergency Services Day with Heart‑Warming Community Celebration

Milford Lodge Care Home in Hitchin proudly celebrated Emergency Services Day on 9th September, bringing together residents, staff, local preschool children, and two much‑loved branches of the community: PCSO Phoebe Taylor and a crew of Hitchin Firefighters.

🚒 A Fire Engine Visit That Delighted All Ages

The highlight of the day was the arrival of the Hitchin Fire Service, who rolled into the car park with their gleaming fire engine.

Residents and preschool children were thrilled to explore:

• Fire engine equipment up close

• Protective gear used in emergency situations

• A friendly, guided tour of the engine

Firefighters chatted warmly with residents, answered curious questions from the children, and posed for photos. The visit created a wonderful intergenerational moment filled with excitement, admiration, and gratitude.

👮‍♀️ A Familiar Face Returns: PCSO Phoebe Taylor

PCSO Phoebe Taylor, already a cherished friend of Milford Lodge, joined the celebration to represent Hertfordshire Police.

She spent time speaking with residents about her role, sharing stories from her work in the community, and enjoying the lively atmosphere. Her presence added a personal, reassuring touch to the day.

🍊 Emergency‑Services‑Themed Treats & Activities

The Engagement & Wellbeing Team transformed the Orangery into a fun, themed space with:

• Chocolate‑orange emergency‑services cupcakes

• Tea, coffee, and refreshments

• Wordsearches and quizzes celebrating police, fire, ambulance and coastguard heroes

Residents enjoyed testing their knowledge, sharing memories of past careers, and chatting about the vital role emergency workers play in keeping communities safe.
