Milford Lodge Ladies Win 3rd Place at Hitchin Food Festival Bake Off with Their “Biscuit Bonanza” Creation
By Eliana Ferraris 7th Sep 2026
The talented ladies of Milford Lodge Care Home have once again shown their flair for flavour and creativity, proudly securing 3rd place at the Hitchin Food Festival Bake Off with their standout entry - A Tropical Twist on a Classic.
Their competition entry was a shortbread sandwich biscuit that brought sunshine to the judges' table. The ladies crafted a beautifully balanced bake featuring:
Shortbread biscuits with a delicate, buttery crumb
A vibrant pineapple & papaya centre
A pineapple & orange jam &
A smooth vanilla cream filling
The combination created a tropical burst of flavour that judges described as refreshing, imaginative, and wonderfully executed.
Residents loved experimenting with the fruity ingredients, sharing memories of summer holidays and favourite family recipes as they baked. One resident joked that the biscuit was "so tropical it deserved its own passport."
🎪 A Festival Full of Fun & Community
The Hitchin Food Festival was buzzing with energy — stalls, music, local produce, and friendly competition. The Bake Off offered a wonderful opportunity for the Milford ladies to showcase their skills and feel part of Hitchin's vibrant community spirit.
🥉 A Proud 3rd Place Finish
Taking home third place was a moment of pure joy. The ladies celebrated with big smiles, plenty of photos, and of course, a few extra bites of their Biscuit Bonanza. Their success highlighted not only their baking talent but also the importance of meaningful, creative activities that bring residents together.
Milford Lodge is incredibly proud of the ladies' achievement and grateful to the Hitchin Food Festival team for hosting such an inclusive and uplifting event.
