Music24 Singing Cafés help Hitchin residents connect through music and friendship
By James Denselow 4th Feb 2026
Older residents in Hitchin looking for company, conversation and a chance to enjoy music together are being encouraged to join a welcoming local Singing Café aimed at reducing loneliness and boosting wellbeing.
Community music therapy charity Music24 runs Singing Cafés across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, including a fortnightly session in Hitchin, offering over-55s a relaxed and friendly daytime space to meet others and enjoy live music making.
The initiative is designed to help tackle social isolation while supporting both physical and mental wellbeing. Sessions are also dementia-friendly and suitable for people recovering from illness or anyone feeling at risk of becoming isolated.
Participants can enjoy singing, music and conversation over a cup of tea, with sessions led by experienced staff, community musicians and volunteers who create a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
Teela Hughes-Davis, CEO of Music24, said: "We are absolutely delighted to be able to offer community Singing Cafes. Connecting people through music, preventing social isolation, and enhancing creativity and confidence is what all our sessions are about. Our Singing Cafes offer a relaxed, friendly space where people can enjoy a cuppa, sing and dance, led by our highly experienced staff, community musicians and volunteers."
Music24 currently hosts Singing Cafés in Hitchin, Hertford and Welwyn, helping older residents across the region stay socially connected through music.
Anyone interested in attending or learning more about local sessions can visit the Music24 website or contact the charity directly via [email protected].
Residents looking for a friendly way to meet new people while enjoying music are encouraged to give the Hitchin group a try.
