Residents in Hitchin and across North Hertfordshire can now download a new mobile app designed to make managing bin collections simpler — especially following the introduction of the new three-weekly waste and recycling schedule.
Launched this week (Wednesday, November 5), the free North Herts Council app provides tailored reminders for collection days, including notifications about changes over bank holidays.
The app, which is available on both Apple and Android devices, also includes:
- Personalised bin day alerts
- A clear guide on what goes in each bin
- Quick links to local councillors and nearby council-run facilities such as car parks, parks and play areas
- The latest council news and updates
Residents can also report missed bins or raise issues through the app, with further interactive features set to be added in the coming months.
Cllr Amy Allen, Executive Member for Environment at North Herts Council, said:
"More and more of us are turning to apps to take care of everyday tasks like banking or booking travel, so our new app taps into this shift, bringing essential waste information right to residents' fingertips – from bin reminders to recycling guidance.
"It's a small but practical step that will help households adapt to the new collection system and enable them to recycle more. We also expect the app to reduce the number of waste-related calls to our customer service team, freeing up time to support residents with more complex queries, who may need extra help."
The council hopes the app will make the new collection pattern easier to follow and encourage higher recycling rates across the district.
You can download the North Herts Council app now by searching for 'North Herts Council' in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
