Twenty-five new police officers have officially joined Hertfordshire Constabulary after graduating at a ceremony held at police headquarters in Welwyn Garden City.

The new recruits come from a wide range of backgrounds, with previous careers including church warden, landscaper, tree surgeon and dairy farmer. Several also previously worked as police staff in the constabulary's Force Communications Room before deciding to become warranted officers.

Family, friends and colleagues gathered to celebrate the officers' achievements as they completed their training and prepared to begin frontline duties across Hertfordshire.

Addressing the graduates, Chief Constable Andy Prophet praised their commitment to public service.

He said: "Every single one of you has taken on a role where no two days are the same, but it is so rewarding when you experience gratitude from someone you have helped.

"You will be such an important part of our mission to catch criminals, solve crime and keep people safe, and I know you will do it with enthusiasm and bravery. You will always have the support of your colleagues, and your wonderful families and friends here today; I can see the joy and pride on their faces as they watch you take this important step of graduating."

The force says the new officers will now begin serving communities across Hertfordshire, putting into practice the skills they have developed during their training.

Hertfordshire Constabulary is continuing to recruit new officers, highlighting the variety of work involved in policing – from safeguarding vulnerable people and gathering intelligence to neighbourhood policing and tackling crime.
