New Hitchin Facebook group proves to be a big hit!

A new Facebook page devoted to the Walsworth area of Hitchin is already proving to be a big hit!

The page, called 'We are from Walsworth, Hertfordshire' has been set up by local Walsworth people Felix Camfield-Walker and Chrissy Russell.

They set the page up in a response to increasing public demand for a dedicated site on the area.

Community champion Felix, told Hitchin Nub News: "As the chairman of The Walsworth Festival committee, founder of @HISTORICHITCHIN Twitter page and curator of several other local groups I had been asked several times when I would be setting up a Walsworth page, along similar lines to other local residents pages, but was pipped to the post by Chrissy, so offered my assistance.

"Walsworth has always had a strong community feeling that separates it from the rest of Hitchin, even though if you asked many of the newer Hitchin residents they'd have little or no idea where Walsworth actually is!

"I see this new Facebook group as a great opportunity to unite the local community, old residents and new, and try to involve locals more with Walsworth Community Centre and the Walsworth Festival which is set to return next year in May after a two year Covid-hiatus."

Since Chrissy and Felix and started the page on March 7 it has leapt to more than 500 members.

The aim of the page is to share photographs and reminiscences about old Walsworth, reunite old friends and let locals know about local events and charity drives.

Felix also shared a dream that he hopes to turn into reality, explaining: "It's about time Walsworth regained a little of its own identity.

"It's my pipe-dream to one day, through local campaigning and raising money through the festival and the local community to see a Walsworth Village sign placed on the green.

"I see this as the start of that pipe-dream being turned into reality."
