Passengers using Hitchin station will benefit from new and improved information screens following a £1.7 million programme of upgrades across the Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern rail network.

Train operator Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), which runs Thameslink, Great Northern and Southern services, has announced that a range of station improvements have been completed over the past year at locations across London, the South East and parts of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

The investment has funded a variety of projects aimed at improving the passenger experience, including upgraded information displays, enhanced cycle storage facilities and better accessibility measures.

Among the improvements delivered is the installation of new and upgraded passenger information screens at Hitchin station, helping travellers access real-time service information more easily.

In total, more than £1.7 million has been spent on station upgrades during the past 12 months, with a further £1.7 million already secured for future improvement projects across the network.

Louis Rambaud, Chief Customer Officer at GTR, said: "While these changes may seem modest on their own, it's the little touches at our passengers' local stations which will be noticed the most.

"Things like information screens in the right places, better access for those who need it, and our work to encourage sustainable transport for the 'last mile' all add up to something much greater than the sum of its parts."

The improvements form part of ongoing efforts to modernise stations and make rail travel more accessible and convenient for passengers across the network.

For Hitchin commuters and visitors, the upgraded information screens are expected to make it easier to keep track of train services and any changes to journeys while travelling through the busy station.
