North Herts Speakers Club Celebrates 10 year Anniversary

On Tuesday North Herts Speakers welcomed past and present members to celebrate with us 10 years since we chartered as a Toastmaster club. North Herts Speakers started in the Sun Hotel in Hitchin.
We were honoured to have in attendance
- George Moroiu, our Division Director
- Steve Campion DTM, Programme Quality Director, Division Director 2019 and President of East Herts Speakers.
- Elizabeth Jordan DTM, immediate past District Director
- Previous Division Director, Georgina Hodgkinson
- Bob Ferguson DTM, our main speaker for the evening
It was great to see our past members, Elizabeth Jordan, Bob Ferguson, Maria Harrison, Bradely Peter and Tana MacPherson who all gave so much to our club.
Celebrating 10 years
North Herts Speakers Club was set up by John Kendall DTM in 2014. To be specific, the very first meeting of the club was at the Sun Hotel on the 1st of October 2014.
The club chartered on the 30th of September and was recognised as President's Distinguished. In fact the club was recognised as President's Distinguished 5 years in a row.
We owe a lot to John Kendall and the first members of North Herts Speakers who created the club that we know now. We're all very disappointed that John is not able to make it here tonight, he's not feeling well and does not want to spread the infection further.
Toastmasters is an international charity that helps people to master public speaking.
But it doesn't just help with public speaking, not at all.
Toastmasters trains people to communicate more effectively and listen more intently.
How does this help people in our local community?
It helps people with their work by giving them the skills and confidence to excel in:
- interviews
- meetings
- business presentations
- giving effective feedback
- promoting their own business
But more importantly, our members have gained confidence and found support from our club to realise their self improvement goals.
I've met some very interesting people who have become good friends. Because becoming a Toastmaster is more than just going on a public speaking course, it is a community.

We meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month.
