Hitchin Chamber Orchestra 10th Anniversary Concert is on Saturday 12th of July and those lucky enough to have tickets will be treated to a original piece of music inspired and dedicated to the town.

Hitchin Pianist and composer Iain Farrington was interviewed for the podcast "Harmonious World" last week where he explained the forthcoming world premiere of the 18-minute piece Talk of the Town,

Farrington explained that "I was born and bred in Hitchin, it has changed in some ways and not in others". He said the music was inspired by Hitchin's market, church, the hill, the town square and the idea of home.

The first movement is called "Saturday Market" - joyous, active and lively - "my memory of going to the market with my mum", the second is inspired by St Mary's Church itself - where the concert will take place. The third movement is called "sledging on Windmill Hill" - full of descending scales. The final movement is named after the town square and is "fun and jazzy" in celebration of the events that take place there.
