Pupils, staff and families at Our Lady Catholic Primary School, Hitchin, are celebrating following the publication of an Ofsted report that recognised the school's many strengths and awarded Strong Standard judgements in Early Years, Inclusion, Leadership and Governance, and Personal Development and Wellbeing.

The report highlights a school where children feel a genuine sense of belonging, relationships are exceptionally strong, and every pupil is supported to thrive academically, socially and spiritually. Safeguarding standards were met, and the school achieved the Expected Standard in all remaining areas, reflecting the high benchmark set by Ofsted's new inspection framework.

Inspectors praised the school's inclusive culture, recognising that leaders and staff work tirelessly to understand and meet the needs of every child. The report notes that pupils quickly feel welcomed into the school community and that staff adapt provision to ensure all children can access opportunities and achieve success.

A particular strength identified by inspectors was the school's commitment to inclusion, where every child is known as an individual and supported to flourish. The report also celebrates the impact of strong leadership and governance, recognising the ambitious vision shared by leaders, governors and the Trust, alongside a culture of continual reflection and improvement.

The school's Early Years provision was also recognised as a significant strength. Inspectors highlighted the excellent start children receive, the strong partnerships with families and the way children quickly develop confidence, independence and a love of learning.

In addition, Ofsted recognised the school's commitment to personal development and wellbeing, noting the wide range of opportunities that help pupils develop character, responsibility, resilience and compassion while preparing them well for life beyond primary school.

One of the report's most memorable observations was: "Pupils know that they belong here."

Inspectors also found that pupils are proud of their school, value the opportunities provided to them and contribute positively to the welcoming and supportive culture that exists throughout the community.

Sarah Snowball, Headteacher, said:

"We are incredibly proud of this outcome and, most importantly, of what it says about our school community. The recognition of Early Years, Inclusion, Leadership and Governance, and Personal Development and Wellbeing reflects the dedication, care and ambition shown every day by our staff, governors, pupils and families.

"At Our Lady, we believe every child should be known, valued and supported to flourish. We are delighted that inspectors recognised the culture of belonging, inclusion and high expectations that sits at the heart of our school. This achievement belongs to our whole community, and we look forward to continuing to build on these strengths in the years ahead."

Families interested in joining Our Lady Catholic Primary School are warmly invited to attend the school's admissions evening on 12 November 2026 or arrange a school tour to experience first-hand the caring and ambitious environment recognised within the report.
