Could a crossing here help pedestrians in Hitchin?

Hitchin resident, Ayan Kumar Halder, has launched the petition requesting a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Blackhorse Lane and Stevenage road.

They explain in a petition seeking public support that "the bend ahead on the road makes it hard to see the oncoming vehicles. There are two schools (Whitehill school and Kingshott) on the other side of the street. Thus, it is used by the residents quite a lot and the Stevenage road is busy at all times".

Hertfordshire County Council and Hitchin's MP have been contacted to support the call.

Those against the idea may be concerned by a crossing slowing down traffic moving through the town leading to increased gridlock.
