Plans for a new bus mobility hub at Lister Hospital – backed by more than 70% of local respondents in consultation – are moving forward, with construction due to start this autumn.

Hertfordshire County Council says the project, part of its Bus Service Improvement Plan funded by the Department for Transport, will increase bus capacity, improve passenger facilities, and make travel easier for those arriving by bike, taxi or on foot.

Ahead of construction, site surveys are scheduled between Monday 18 and Wednesday 27 August (excluding the Bank Holiday weekend).

These will run between 9.30am and 4pm on weekdays and involve temporary changes along Coreys Mill Lane.

Residents heading to the hospital or travelling through the area should expect:

  • Temporary bus stops and taxi ranks from Wednesday 20 August
  • Temporary traffic lights
  • Short-term footway closures

Cllr Paul Zukowskyj, executive member for Environment, Transport and Growth, said:

"The upcoming surveys are the vital last step before construction can begin, and I would like to thank residents for their patience whilst we undertake these works. Every effort is being made to minimise disruption as much as possible."

The hub is intended to improve links to Lister for Hitchin residents and others across North Herts who rely on public transport to reach the hospital.

Full details of the temporary arrangements can be found at intalink.org.uk.
