Residents across North Hertfordshire will be able to watch a public meeting this week where policing priorities – including burglary, leadership within the force and the use of new technology – will be scrutinised.

Jonathan Ash-Edwards will hold his latest Accountability & Performance Meeting (APM) on Thursday 12 March at 10.30am, where he will question senior officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary about their performance and priorities.

The monthly meetings are designed to ensure the constabulary is held publicly accountable for its work on behalf of residents across the county. The session will be webcast live, allowing members of the public to watch online.

Key topics set to be discussed include:

  • The constabulary's performance in tackling burglary
  • The recent deployment of live facial recognition technology in Watford
  • Leadership and wellbeing across the police force
  • Firearms licensing
  • The use of artificial intelligence in policing

The Commissioner will also be speaking with the Deputy Chief Constable during the meeting.

Mr Ash-Edwards said: "Transparency in local policing is vital which is why I hold my accountability and performance meetings in public. Residents can tune in to see me hold the constabulary to account on their behalf for the performance and work of Hertfordshire Constabulary. Recordings of past meetings are then published on my website.

"This month I will be scrutinising the constabulary's performance on tackling burglaries, getting an update on the recent deployment of live facial recognition in Watford and looking at the constabulary's work to develop internal leadership."

He added that residents can raise issues they would like him to bring up with the force.
