Police are appealing for witnesses following an altercation in Hitchin in which a firearm was reportedly seen and a woman was allegedly spat at.

The incident happened on Bedford Road at around 3.10pm on Tuesday, July 21, and involved several occupants of two vehicles.

Hertfordshire Constabulary said it was reported that racially abusive language was used during the altercation and that a woman was spat at.

A firearm was also reportedly seen during the incident.

A 36-year-old woman from Borehamwood was subsequently arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated common assault and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

She has been released on bail while police enquiries continue.

Detective Constable Alan Fenwick, who is investigating, said: "Our investigation is ongoing as we continue to establish the full circumstances around this incident.
