A popular charity run is set to return to Baldock this month, raising money for Garden House Hospice Care.

The Baldock 5K Rat Run will take place on Sunday, September 13, bringing together hundreds of runners, families and supporters.

The event has become a fixture in the town's sporting calendar, with 300 places available for this year's chip-timed 5K.

The run is open to anyone aged 13 and over, with organisers saying the route is suitable for experienced runners as well as those tackling a 5K for the first time.

There will also be plenty taking place away from the running route.

The 2nd Baldock Scouts will host a barbecue, while children's activities, games, stalls and music will be on offer throughout the event.

A charity raffle will also be held, featuring prizes donated by local businesses and supporters.

Organisers have introduced new challenges this year to make the day more inclusive for families and those who are not taking part in the 5K itself.

These will include a Family Champions Trophy as well as trophies for individual challenge winners.

The Rat Run is held in memory of Carl Holland, a much-loved Baldock figure who helped develop the event into the popular annual fixture it is today.

Event organiser Sammie Holland said: "The Rat Run means a huge amount to our family and to Baldock.

"Every year we see people of all ages come together to support Garden House Hospice and to remember Carl in the way he'd have loved, with energy, laughter and community spirit.

"We're excited to welcome runners back again this September."

Registration is now open, with entry costing £15.
